Gingivitis is the earliest stage of gum disease. It happens when plaque and bacteria build up on your teeth and cause infection. Common symptoms include red, swollen, bleeding gums. Treatments include regular dental cleanings and improved oral hygiene at home between visits.


Periodontal disease is a serious condition. It results from a polymicrobial infection of the subgingival oral tissues. The bacterial infection in your mouth invades your circulatory system, negatively affecting your heart, liver, kidneys, lungs and brain cells. Left untreated, its been shown to shorten lifespans, and is sometimes fatal. Secondarily, it causes premature tooth loss.

Treatment includes Scaling and root planning to remove the infection from your teeth and gum tissue, lab tests to verify the use of systemic antibiotics, local delivery of antibiotic gels to reach bacteria under the gums and retain activity for periods sufficient to have bactericidal or bacteriostatic effects on offending bacteria, medicated mouth rinses, and other technologies to aid and assist in a successful outcome. Of equal importance is the necessity for our patients to follow oral hygiene instructions with exactness given by our outstanding dental hygienists, thus changing the oral bacteria to one more compatible with periodontal health.
